Leg Vein Treatment

Precision Vascular Laser Therapy

Visible leg veins can develop due to genetics, hormonal influences, prolonged standing, or vascular changes over time. For suitable patients, non-surgical laser therapy may offer an option for improving the appearance of superficial veins.

At our clinic, leg vein treatment is performed using the Cutera Excel V+, an advanced vascular laser system designed to target unwanted vessels with precision.

How the Excel V+ Treats Leg Veins

The Excel V+ utilises the 1064nm wavelength, which penetrates deeper into the skin and is selectively absorbed by haemoglobin within blood vessels.

This process:

• Delivers controlled heat to the targeted vessel

• Causes selective coagulation of the vein

• Allows the body to gradually reabsorb the treated vessel over time

• Preserves surrounding tissue

This principle, known as selective photothermolysis, enables targeted treatment while minimising impact on surrounding skin structures.

Suitable Veins

Laser treatment may be considered for:

• Small spider veins (telangiectasia)

• Fine reticular veins

• Superficial vascular clusters

Larger varicose veins are generally not suitable for laser therapy and may require vascular specialist assessment.

A consultation will determine whether laser treatment is appropriate for your specific condition.

Treatment Experience

• Comprehensive vascular assessment

• Protective cooling during treatment

• Mild snapping or warming sensation

• Sessions typically 15–30 minutes

• No incisions or injections

Multiple sessions may be required depending on the size, depth, and number of vessels.

Recovery & Expectations

• Temporary redness or mild swelling may occur

• Some treated veins may darken before gradually fading

• Gradual improvement over several weeks

• Compression garments may be recommended in certain cases

Individual results vary and complete clearance cannot be guaranteed.

Safety Considerations

Laser vein treatment is a medical procedure and may not be suitable for all patients. Risks can include:

• Bruising

• Temporary pigment changes

• Blistering (rare)

• Incomplete vessel clearance

All potential risks, benefits, and alternative options will be discussed during your consultation.
