Cutera Excel V+

Precision Vascular Laser Technology

The Cutera Excel V+ is an advanced vascular laser platform designed to target redness and visible blood vessels with accuracy and control.

Unlike broad-spectrum light devices, Excel V+ delivers highly specific wavelengths of laser energy that are selectively absorbed by haemoglobin within blood vessels. This allows treatment of vascular concerns while minimising impact on surrounding tissue.

How It Works

Excel V+ utilises two clinically established wavelengths:

532nm wavelength

• Targets superficial redness

• Effective for facial veins and red spots

• Commonly used for rosacea-related flushing

1064nm wavelength

• Penetrates more deeply into the skin

• Suitable for deeper or larger vessels

• Often selected for darker skin types due to lower melanin absorption

When the laser energy is absorbed by haemoglobin, it generates controlled heat within the vessel. This leads to selective coagulation of the targeted vessel, which the body gradually reabsorbs over time.

This process is known as selective photothermolysis — a targeted approach that preserves surrounding skin structures.

Conditions Commonly Treated

Excel V+ may be used to address:

• Facial redness and flushing

• Rosacea-associated vascular changes

• Telangiectasia (small visible veins)

• Spider veins (select cases)

• Red angiomas (cherry angiomas)

• Acne-related redness

• Post-procedural erythema

Suitability is determined following individual assessment.

Cooling & Comfort Technology

Excel V+ incorporates a built-in sapphire contact cooling system. This helps:

• Improve patient comfort

• Protect the epidermis

• Reduce risk of surface injury

• Enhance safety in appropriate candidates

This integrated cooling allows controlled vascular targeting while maintaining skin integrity.

Suitability for Fitzpatrick Skin Types

The 1064nm wavelength may be suitable for a broader range of skin types, including Fitzpatrick skin types IV–VI, when conservative parameters are used and treatment is performed by an experienced practitioner.

As with all vascular laser treatments, darker skin types carry an increased risk of pigmentary change. Careful consultation and, where indicated, test spots are important components of safe practice.

What to Expect

• Personalised consultation and vascular assessment

• Short treatment sessions

• A warming or snapping sensation during treatment

• Temporary redness or mild swelling

• Gradual improvement over several weeks

Some vessels may clear immediately, while others fade progressively. Multiple sessions may be required depending on the severity and chronicity of the condition.

Important Considerations

Laser treatment is a medical procedure and individual responses vary. Potential risks include:

• Temporary redness or swelling

• Bruising

• Blistering (rare)

• Temporary pigment changes

• Rare scarring

A full discussion of risks, expected outcomes, and alternative treatment options will take place during consultation.
